Mark 1:1-8 ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’” 4 And so John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. 6 John wore clothing made of camel’ s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And this was his message: “After me will come one more powerful than I, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” Isaiah 40:1-5 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. 2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the LORD’s hand double for all her sins. 3 A voice of one calling: “In the desert prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. 5 And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” |
マルコ１：１－８ 1:1 神の子イエス・キリストの福音の初め。 1:2 預言者イザヤの書にこう書いてある。 「見よ、わたしはあなたより先に 使者を遣わし、／あなたの道を準備させよう。1:3 荒れ野で叫ぶ者の声がする。『主の道を整え、／その道筋をまっすぐにせよ。』 」 そのとおり、1:4 洗礼者ヨハネが荒れ野に現れて、罪の赦しを得させるために悔い改めの洗礼を宣べ伝えた。1:5 ユダヤ の全地方とエルサレムの住民は皆、ヨハネのもとに来て、罪を告白し、ヨルダン川で彼から洗礼を受けた。1:6 ヨハネはらくだの毛 衣を着、腰に革の帯を締め、いなごと野蜜を食べていた。1:7 彼はこう宣べ伝えた。「わたしよりも優れた方が、後から来られる。 わたしは、かがんでその方の履物のひもを解く値打ちもない。1:8 わたしは水であなたたちに洗礼を授けたが、その方は聖霊で洗 礼をお授けになる。」 イザヤ４０：１－５ 40:1 慰めよ、わたしの民を慰めよと／あなたたちの神は言われる。 40:2 エルサレムの心に語りかけ／彼女に呼びかけよ／苦役の時は今や満ち、彼女の咎は償われた、と。罪のすべてに倍 する報いを／主の御手から受けた、と。 40:3 呼びかける声がある。主のために、荒れ野に道を備え／わたしたちの神のために、荒れ地に広い道を通せ。 40:4 谷はすべて身を起こし、山と丘は身を低くせよ。険しい道は平らに、狭い道は広い谷となれ。 40:5 主の栄光がこうして現れるのを／肉なる者は共に見る。主の口がこう宣言される。 |
At Christmas God speaks to us. クリスマスの時、神様は私達に話して下さいます。 His message of salvation is delivered by angels and prophets. その救いのメッセージが天使や預言者によって伝えられています。 Today we read the words of two prophets, Isaiah and John the Baptist. 今日、二人の預言者の言葉を読みます、イザヤとパプテスマのヨハネです。
Isaiah said to make a highway for God in the desert. イザヤは言いました、「主のために、荒れ野に道を備え／わたしたちの神のために、荒れ地に広い道を通せ。」 It was the historical situation that the Exile of the Jews in Babylon was over and that they would soon be returning to the Promised Land. 歴史上の状態は、バビロニアに連れていかれたユダヤ人の捕囚（ほしゅう）が終わり、彼らはそろそろ約束の地に帰ります。It would be a long trip for them, they had to travel through the desert. とても長い旅になります。砂漠を通って行きます。And so, Isaiah told them that God would be with them on their journey home and would protect them and would make their journey easy. それでイザヤは予言しました。その約束の地への旅に、神様が彼らと共に行って彼らを守り、旅路を楽にして下さいます。And so it would be like walking through a beautiful garden, it was beautiful because they were going home! それで、綺麗な公園を歩く事のようになります。何故ならば、家に帰るからです！
John the Baptist took the words of Isaiah and applied them to his own work. バプテスマのヨハネは、イザヤの言葉を借りて自分の働きに当たって用（もち）いたのです。John was in the wilderness, and there he was preparing a highway for the Messiah to come to the Jews. ヨハネは荒れ野にいました。そこでユダヤ人の所に来られるメシアの来る道を備えました。 Isaiah told of the forgiveness of God and John told the people to repent of their sin and be baptized to receive forgiveness. イザヤは神様の赦しについて語りましたが、ヨハネは人々が自分の罪を悔い改めて洗礼を受けなさいと言いました。 In the Book of Isaiah, because God had forgiven the Jews, they could return home to the Promised Land from exile in Babylon. イザヤ書の場合には、神様がユダヤ人を赦して下さったので、バビロンでの捕囚から約束の地に帰る事が出来ます。 For John the Baptist, if the Jews again repented of their sins and turned to God, then the Messiah would lead them to salvation. ヨハネの場合には、罪を悔い改めて神様のもとに帰ったら、メシアは彼らを救いの道に導いて下さいます。 And Jesus did come. そしてイエス様は本当に来られました。 He was the Way, the Truth, and the Life. 彼こそは、道であり、真理であり、命であります。He was the straight path to salvation. 彼こそは救いへのますぐな道です。
And today, we hear the words of Isaiah and John speaking to us. そして、今日、私達に語られているイザヤとヨハネの言葉を聞きます。 It is time for us to repent and believe in the Gospel. 今日、私達は悔い改めて福音を信じる時期です。It is time for us to travel the road prepared for us. 私達の為に供えられた道を旅する時期です。It is prepared by those who preach and teach the Gospel. 福音を述べ伝えたり教えたりする人が私達の為にその道を備えました。We are led by the Holy Spirit. 私達が聖霊によって導かれています。We take up our crosses and follow Jesus to the cross, to the grave, to the resurrection. 私達は自分の十字架を背負ってイエス様の後に従います。それは十字架まで、お墓まで、復活までです。
Both Isaiah and John were prophets. イザヤとヨハネは預言者でした。 They speak to us. 彼らは私達にも語ります。When we hear these words, God is telling us also to prepare the road for the Messiah. 私達がその言葉を聞く時、神様が私達に、メシアの為に道を備えるように言われています。Soon Christmas will be here, and so we need to prepare for his coming. クリスマスはそろそろ来ますので、キリストの来臨の準備をします。 Maybe we too should build a highway for the Lord in the wilderness. 私達も荒れ野の中で、主の道を作れば良いのでしょうか。Taken literally, we might build a chapel in the desert or in the jungle or on a deserted island. 文字通りに解釈したら、新しい伝道所を砂漠の中やジャングルの中か、無人島に作る事でしょうか。But when you think about it, sometimes the place where we are right now seems like a wilderness. しかし考えますと、私達が今いる場所が荒れ野のようです。 I am not talking about the economic situation of our homes. 私達の家の経済的な事を意味しません。I am talking about the desert-like conditions of our society as a whole. 私達の社会全体の状態が荒れ野のようです。People wander around in spiritual darkness and fear. 人々は霊的な暗闇を恐れで迷い出ています。Hearts and eyes are dry from crying and pain and worry. 涙と痛みと心配の為に、目も心も乾きます。And so the place to build a chapel is right here. ですから礼拝堂を建てる場所はここです。 This is where it is needed. ここに必要があります。 Not just this church building, but the chapel of our hearts. 教会の建物だけではありません。私達の心の礼拝堂です。We prepare for the Lord to come to our own hearts and then we show the path of salvation to others. 主が私達の心に来られる為に自分の心を準備したり、その救いの道を他の人にも教えます。This is where the Messiah comes. メサイヤはここに来られます。That is the Christmas Story. これこそはクリスマスのストーリーです。 Christ was born in this sinful wilderness of a world. キリストはこの罪深い荒れ野のような世界に生まれました。 He came to where we are. 私達がいる所に来られました。Here he suffered like we do and then, even more; he suffered and was crucified for our sin. ここで、私達と同じように苦しみました、いや、それ以上に、私達の罪の為に、苦しみを受けて十字架上で死にました。 Then he arose on the third day. そして、３日目に甦られました。 Then he promised our resurrection and eternal life in the Promised Land. 私達の復活と約束の地での、永遠の命を約束しました。That prophecy of Jesus is the prophecy that gives meaning to Christmas. このイエス様の預言こそはクリスマスに意味を与えます。 Christmas is the first step on the road to the Promised Land. クリスマスは約束の地への一歩目です。
Jesus Christ is called “Immanuel” which means “God with us.” イエス･キリストは｢インマヌエル｣と呼ばれています。｢神が私達と共にいる｣と意味します。 Christmas tells us that God is with us. クリスマスは、神様が私達と共にいると教えます。We do not travel the road alone. 私達はその道を一人で旅しません。The road of life goes through a wilderness sometimes: grief and sorrow and pain and sin. 人生の道では、荒れ野を通る時があります:悲しみ、痛み、罪があります。But it need not be a lonely wilderness. しかし、淋しい荒れ野ではなくても良いです。 I know in my life that the road has been easier when I have traveled with God in the midst of problems. 私の人生の道がいき易くなるのは、問題の中にいる時、神様と共に旅をする時です。That is when I pray and ask God to guide me and to be with me. その時、祈って、神様が導いてくださるように、私と共にいるように祈ります。 The mountains of problems are lowered; the valleys of disappointment and failure are not so deep. 問題の山が低くなり、失敗と失望の谷が深くありません。
At Christmas the words of the prophets are fulfilled. クリスマスに、預言者の言葉が成就されています。That is what we celebrate at Christmas.それをクリスマスにお祝いします。 God is with us. 神様が私達と共にいます。
