John 17:6–11 [Jesus’ high priestly prayer at the Last Supper.]
“I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one.

6 「世から選び出してわたしに与えてくださった人々に、わたしは御名を現しました。彼らはあなたのものでしたが、あなたはわたしに与えてくださいました。彼らは、御言葉を守りました。7 わたしに与えてくださったものはみな、あなたからのものであることを、今、彼らは知っています。8 なぜなら、わたしはあなたから受けた言葉を彼らに伝え、彼らはそれを受け入れて、わたしがみもとから出て来たことを本当に知り、あなたがわたしをお遣わしになったことを信じたからです。9 彼らのためにお願いします。世のためではなく、わたしに与えてくださった人々のためにお願いします。彼らはあなたのものだからです。10 わたしのものはすべてあなたのもの、あなたのものはわたしのものです。わたしは彼らによって栄光を受けました。11 わたしは、もはや世にはいません。彼らは世に残りますが、わたしはみもとに参ります。聖なる父よ、わたしに与えてくださった御名によって彼らを守ってください。わたしたちのように、彼らも一つとなるためです。」

Since Pastor Saito is going to preach again during the Installation Service based on the reading from Acts Chapter One, I will make only a short proclamation of the Gospel based on the reading from John Chapter Seventeen.
齋藤先生は、就任式の時に使徒言行緑第1章に基づいて再び説教しますので、今、今日の福音書ヨハネ１７章に基づいて短くて福音を述べ伝えたいと思います。
During the Last Supper, Jesus prayed for his disciples and also for us. 最後の晩餐の時、イエス様は弟子達及び私達の為にも祈って下さいました。 He prayed for a miracle. 奇跡の為にも祈りました。 After nearly 2000 years we are still praying for that same miracle. そして、もうすぐ２千年ほどになりますが、私達は今もその奇跡の為に祈って続きます。 It is even a miracle that we have not given up praying for it. 諦めないで祈り続くける事でさえも一つの奇跡でしょう。 The miracle is Christian unity. その奇跡とは、キリスト信者達の一致です。 Before his suffering, death, resurrection and ascension, Jesus prayed, 苦しみを受けて、死んで、復活して、昇天する前に、イエス様は祈りました。“I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one.” 「わたしは、もはや世にはいません。彼らは世に残りますが、わたしはみもとに参ります。聖なる父よ、わたしに与えてくださった御名によって彼らを守ってください。わたしたちのように、彼らも一つとなるためです。」
Just as Jesus knew the future of what was going to happen to himself, he also knew the future of the disciples. イエス様がご自分の将来を知っていたと同じように、弟子達の将来をも知りました。 Even while Jesus was still with the disciples they argued about who was the greatest. イエス様がまだ弟子達と共にいるうちにも、弟子達は、だれが一番偉いかと喧嘩しました。 The book of Acts and the letters of St. Paul tell of divisions in the new church. 使徒言行緑や聖パウロの手紙によりますと、若い教会にも分裂がありました。 For the next 19 centuries it has continued. そして、そのまま１９世紀まで続きました。 Today there are thousands of denominations in the Christian Church. 現代、キリスト教会の宗派は何千もあります。 In the last couple of years even in the Lutheran Church there have been more divisions and new groups.この最近の３,４年で、ルーテル教会の中にも新しい分裂や新しいグループが出て来ました。 Church council meetings in some churches are known for their arguments. ある教会の役員会のミーティングがいつも喧嘩に成ります。 Even our own church sometimes has differences of opinions.私達の小さい教会の中にも、意見が合わない場合があります。And in the small Christian gathering o our homes, there are fights and problems. また、私達の家や家族である小さいクリスチャン・グループにも争いと問題があります。
And so the prayer for the miracle of Christian unity continues.それでキリスト教会の一致の奇跡の為の祈りが続けます。 I am afraid that the prayer will continue until Jesus comes back at the end of the world.残念ですが、世の終わりにイエス様がこの世に戻るまでその祈りが続くでしょう。 But we continue to pray because such fighting in church weakens the Gospel proclamation of Salvation in Christ alone. キリスト信者同士の喧嘩がキリストのみにある救いの福音の宣教を弱くするので、祈り続けます。It is only when we are united with Christ that we have salvation. 私達がキリストとつながれている時だけ救われているからです。
We as a church can be one only when we are joined to Christ. 私達がキリストと結ばれている時だけ、教会の一致が可能です。 And the only way we can be one in Christ is through Christ who became one with us. キリストと一致になる事が出来るのは、キリストが私達と一致になる為に来られたからです。 He was born in Bethlehem and lived with us.ベツレヘムで産まれて私達と共に生活しました。 On the cross he was one with us in our sin, which he took upon himself.十字架上で、御自分の上に私達の罪を取る時、私達の罪の中で一致になりました。 It is in that forgiveness that we are made one with Christ.そして、その赦しによって私達がキリストと一致になります。And regardless of church denominations, that belief is the one thing that all Christians have in common.そして、宗派が関係ないので、すべてのクリスチャンが持つのはその信仰です。 We argue about doctrine and music and everything…. And we should because it is important.聖書の教理、音楽、すべての事について私達は喧嘩し続けます。そのものが大切だからです。 But what makes us one is the common faith that Jesus Christ is our Savior.しかし、一致している信仰とは、イエス･キリストが私達の救い主である事です。 And that faith is a true miracle of the Holy Spirit.そして、その信仰は本当に聖霊の奇跡です。
