I am the Light of the World

John 9:1-7, 13-17, 25 or 1-41ヨハネ９：１−７，１３−１７，２５ 又、１−４１
Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world.” イエス様は言われました、「わたしは、世にいる間、世の光である。」 And as to prove that, Jesus cured the man born blind. そして、それをあらわす為に、生まれつき目の見えない人を癒して下さいました。 This man could now see with his eyes: that was a great miracle, but a greater miracle was that now he could see with his heart! 今は、その人が自分の目で見るようになりました：それは素晴らしい奇跡でしたが、なお更に素晴らしい奇跡であることは、今度、その人が、自分の心で見る事が出来たことです。 At first he thought Jesus was just a man, then he said thought he was a good man, then a prophet, and finally he confessed his faith that Jesus was the Son of Man, the promised Messiah. “Lord, I believe” he said (6:38), and he worshiped Jesus. 最初、彼は、イエス様がただの人だと思い、次に、預言者だと思い、そして、最後に、イエス様が約束された救い主であると言う信仰を告白して、イエス様のみ前にひざまずきました。
Meanwhile in the story, there are the Pharisees. と同時に、この話には、そのファリサイ派の人々がいます。 Even though they saw the miracle with their own eyes, they did not want to believe it. 彼らは、自分達の目でその奇跡を見ましたが、それを信じたくありませんでした。 They tried to disprove the miracle, but they couldn’t. 奇跡がないという証拠を探したのですが、駄目でした。 So then they tried to disprove Jesus by calling him a Sabbath-breaking sinner. それで、イエス様を否定したいと思いました。それでイエス様は、安息日を守らない罪人だと言いました。 They thought Jesus was a no-body. ファリサイ派の人々はイエス様が身分のない、ただの普通の人だと思いました。 They had no faith. 彼らにはイエス様への信仰がありませんでした。 Even worse, they did not want to see the truth, they did not want to have faith in Jesus.なお更にひどいのは、彼らは、真理を見たくありませんでした、イエス様を信じたくありませんでした。
Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world.” イエス様は言われました、「わたしは、世の光である。」と。 He is the light that will save the world: イエス様はこの世を救い出す光です。 first the man-born-blind, then the disciples, and then all who believe in him. 先ず、その、生まれつき目の見えない人、次に弟子達、そして、最後に彼を信じるすべての人々を救います。His light is for the whole world, for all who believe in him.彼の光は、全世界の為の光です、彼を信じるすべての人々のためです。
First that light shines into our hearts and into our lives. 先ず、その光は私達の心と人生を照らします。 It reveals our sin. 私達の罪を明らかにあらわします。 It shows that we live in darkness. 私達が暗闇の中で生きている事をあらわします。 It is a light of judgment, a light of condemnation. それは裁きの光です。 It shows our sin. なぜなら私達の罪をあらわすからです。 Then what shall we do? その時、私達は何をしますか。We can try to hide from the light. その光から身をかくそうします。 We can close the curtains of our hearts. 心の窓のカーテンを閉shiめます。 We can try to deny our guilt; 自分の有罪を否定します。we can try to deny that sin is important; その罪はたいしたものではないといいます。we can try to say that our sin is not that bad. 自分の罪はそんなにひどくないと強調kyouchouします。We can try to live without Jesus. イエス様は自分の人生には必要ないと考え、そのように生きます。 But in the darkness we will stumble around and fall down, and falling in sin means falling into hell. しかし、暗kuraい所を歩きますと、物にぶつかって転koroぶでしょう。しかし、罪に転ぶ事は、地獄に落oちる事です。 Or, when we see our sin, we can call out to Jesus for help. 又、逆に、自分の罪を見る時、イエス様の助けを求めて叫ぶ事が出来ます。 We can confess our sin and ask in prayer for help and forgiveness. 自分の罪を告白して、助けと赦しを頼んで祈ることができます。
And then the light of Jesus reveals forgiveness and love and peace. その時、イエス様の光は、赦しと愛と平和をあらわします。 The light becomes like a beacon, like a lighthouse, like streetlamps on a dark night. この光は、灯台のように、又、暗い夜の道の街燈gaitouのようになります。Then we can walk in the Light of God’s love.それで、神様の愛の光の中を歩く事が出来ます。
When the love of Christ shines into our lives, it is like the miracle that healed the man-born-blind. キリストの愛が私達の人生の中を照らすと、生まれつき目の見えない人を癒して下さった奇跡のようです。Our understanding of Jesus changes. イエス様についての理解が変わります。 First he is just a nice man and a good teacher, then a prophet, then a miracle worker, then the Christ who dies for ours sins, and then the Resurrected Son of God who gives us eternal life. 先ず、良い人、よい先生ですが、次に預言者、次に奇跡を行なう人、次に私達の罪を赦す為に死んで下さる人、そして、最後に、私達に永遠の命を下さる甦られた神の子である事です。 Then our lives are filled with the light of Christ as we see and live by faith. それで、私達はキリストの光で満たされて、信仰によって見、信仰によって生きるのです。 Like the man in the Gospel reading, we confess our faith to those who do not see Jesus with their hearts. 今日の福音書の人のように、私達は、イエス様を心で見る事が出来ない人に自分の信仰を告白します。 We try to lead others to the Light. そして他の人をこの光に導こうと思います。
Jesus is the Light of the world. イエス様は、世の光です。 On Good Friday, that light is put out when he is killed on the cross. 聖金曜日、十字架上で殺される時、その光が消されています。 But the glimmer of hope survives. しかし、希望の微光〔かすかな光〕が残っています。 And on the third day he rises in glory and great light to show us the way to everlasting light. そして、３日目にまぶしいほどの栄光を持って甦って、永遠の光へ私達を導いて下さいます。
