Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" Matthew 5:3. イエス様は言われました、「心の貧しい人々は、幸いである。天の国はその人たちのものである」マタイ５:３。 On this All Saints' Sunday, let's talk about heaven. 今日は全聖徒の主日です。天国について話しましょう。

And what is heaven? では天国は何でしょうか。 I checked my Bible dictionary just to be sure. 念の為に聖書辞典を調べました。 I thought it was interesting that in Hebrew, Greek, English and Japanese, the word heaven has two meanings. 面白いと思ったのは、ヘブライ語、ギリシャ語、英語、日本語にも、この言葉には２つの意味があります。 First, it means the sky, as opposed to this earth. 先ず、地面に対する空です。 That is where the clouds and the moon and sun and planets and the stars are. そこには、雲も月も太陽も惑星も星もあります。Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." 創世記１：１「初めに、神は天地を創造された。」And the word heaven also means the place where God dwells. ２つ目は、天国は神様の住まいです。 Isaiah 66:1 "Thus says the Lord: Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool." イザヤ６６:１「主はこう言われる。天はわたしの王座、地はわが足台。」といわれました。 That does not mean necessarily that God lives up in the sky, but it does mean that God's dwelling place is different than this earth in a special way. しかし神様は空の上に住んでいる訳ではありません。それは神様の住まいはこの地球とはまったく違う事です。 Another use of the word heaven in English and Japanese is to mean to die, as in the expression, to go to heaven. 英語と日本語で、この言葉にもう一つの使い方があります。即ち、天国に行く事は死ぬ事です。 But for Christians, to go to heaven means eternal life with God. しかし、クリスチャンにとって、天国に行く事は神様と共にある永遠の命と意味します。 On this All Saints' Sunday, we remember those saints who have died and are now with the Lord in heaven. 今日は全聖徒の主日で、もう既に死んで、天国で主と共にいる聖徒達を覚えます。

There are many beautiful pictures of heaven in the Bible. 聖書の中には、天国を綺麗に描く箇所が沢山あります。 It is a paradise, a marriage supper, green pastures. そこは楽園のパラダイスであり、結婚の披露宴であり、みどりの牧場です。 There are heavenly mansions, streets of gold, gates of pearl. 天国のマンション、金の道、真珠の門です。 But we are not going to talk about the architecture or furniture of heaven. しかし、今日、天国の建築や家具について話しません。 Heaven is where God is.天国とは、神様がおられる所です。 Heaven is wherever God is. 神様がいましたら、どこであっても、それは天国です。 And when we are with God, we are in heaven. 私達が神様と共にいる時、私達は天国にいます。 Heaven is paradise for us only because we are with God. 天国が楽園になるのは、私達が神様と共にいるからです。 So to be in heaven is to be with God. それで天国にいる事とは、神様と共にいる事です。 It is eternal fellowship with God. 神様との永遠の交わりです。There will be no more pain or death or sorrow or tears or tribulation. もう痛みや死や悲しみや涙や争いがありません。 And our bodies will be transformed to the glory of everlasting life. 又、私達の体が永遠の命の栄光に変えられます。

I want to go to heaven! 私は天国に行きたいと思います！ Sign me up! サインアップしましょう。Make the sign of the holy cross on my forehead and on my chest as a sign of my baptism into Christ's death and resurrection. 私の額や私の胸に十字架のしるしを書いて下さい。それは、キリストの死と復活に加えて洗礼のしるしです。 Mark 16:16, "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved." マルコ１６：１６「信じて洗礼を受ける者は救われる。」

And then I looked at today's Gospel reading. それから今日の福音書の日課を見ました。 In these words, who will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, who will see God? この言葉によりますと、誰が天国に入るでしょうか。誰が神様を見る事が出来るでしょうか。 The poor in spirit, the pure in heart, the peacemakers and those persecuted because of righteousness. 心の貧しい人々、心の清い人々、義のために迫害される人々です。 And I wondered if I qualified for heaven based on these words? それで、この言葉が標準でしたら、私自身が天国に行く資格があるでしょうか。 How pure is my heart, really? 自分の心はどのぐらい清いでしょうか。 Have I made more peace or more conflicts in my life? 自分が平和を作る事か問題を起こす事か、どちらの方が多いでしょうか。 Have I been persecuted or bullied because I stood up for justice and tried to live my life in the right way? 自分の人生の中で、どれだけ正義のために、正しいことのために生きるため、そのせいで迫害にあったり、いじめられたりしたことが有るでしょうか。

Or how about those people I love who have been called home to the Lord, are they okay? 又、私の愛する人、もう既に主の所に召された人の場合はどうでしょうか。彼等は大丈夫でしょうか。 I think they were good people who believed in Jesus, but I also know that they were not always pure and peaceful. 彼等はイエス様を信じた良い人でしたが、いつも清く、やさしく、柔和な人ではありませんでした。 Is there anyone who is 100% pure in heart? この世に１００％心の清い人がいるでしょうか。

Yes, there is! 実は、います。 Jesus is. それはイエス様です。 And because of his sacrifice on the cross, all our impurity and trouble-making and unfaithfulness are forgiven in him. 彼の十字架上の犠牲によって、私達のすべてのけがれや争いや不信仰が赦されています。

In the resurrection, we are given new life that is like his. 復活によって、イエス様と同じ新しい命を受けます。 Therefore we will see God; we will receive the kingdom of heaven. ですから、私達は神様を見る事が出来ます。ですから、私達は天の国を受けます。 There we will join with those who have already met the Lord. 　天国で、もう既に主なる神様と出会った人々と共に加えられます。

Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" Matthew 5:3. イエス様はいわれました、「心の貧しい人々は、幸いである、天の国はその人たちのものである」マタイ５:３。 We may be poor in spirit, but it is a rich inheritance from the grace and mercy of God.　私達の心が貧しくても、神様の愛と憐れみによって恵まれています。
