1. Intro Joy, comfort, confession (pride) 喜び、慰め、信仰告白（プライド）
How do we react when we meet the resurrected Lord? 甦られた主と出会う時、どう反応するでしょうか。 Perhaps it is the same as the Disciples. 弟子達と同じでしょうか。There is joy, comfort, and confession.彼らには喜び、慰めと、信仰告白がありました。
2. Joy. 喜び。
On the evening of the day when Jesus rose from the dead, the disciples felt afraid, they were sad and confused. イエス様が甦られた夕方、弟子達には、恐れと悲しみと混乱がありました。 Their friend had died and so they felt sad and lonely. 彼らの友達が死んだので、淋しくて悲しみました。 They did not understand what had happened, they misunderstood what had happened. 何が起こったか、まだ分かりませんでしたし、又起こった事を誤解しました。 They wondered if Jesus had really risen or not? イエス様が本当に復活したでしょうかと思いました。 They did not yet fully grasp what it meant for salvation and eternal life. 救いと永遠の命を得られた事をまだ完全に理解しませんでした。
They locked the doors because they feared the Jews might come and arrest them and crucify them, too. ユダヤ人を恐れました。ユダヤ人が彼らをも逮捕して十字架につけると恐れたでしょう。
When a friend of ours dies, we too feel sad, our lives are changed. 私達の友達が死にましたら、私達も悲しみます、私達の人生が変わります。 We can understand the sadness of the Disciples. それで、私達は弟子達の悲しみが分かります。 We Christians now have only the hope of the resurrection, but the Disciples saw the resurrected Jesus with their own eyes! 私達クリスチャンには復活の希望だけがありますが、弟子達は自分達の目で、復活したイエス様を見ました。
When Jesus appeared, the Disciples were happy for Jesus and happy for themselves, too. イエス様が現れた時、弟子達はイエス様の為にも、自分の為にもうれしかったです。When we meet the Resurrected Lord in faith, we are the same. 信仰によって、私達が甦られたイエス様と出会う時も同じです。 We are happy for Jesus, but we feel joy in our lives, too. イエス様の為にも自分の為にも嬉しいです。 Our lives change. 私達の人生が変わります。 There is hope that gives joy. 希望があるので、喜びが与えられています。
3. Comfort. 慰め。
Should the Disciples have feared the Jews? 弟子達がユダヤ人を恐れるべきだったでしょうか。 Should we fear that someone will persecute us for being a follower of Jesus? 又、私達がイエス様の信者であるので、私達は迫害を恐れるべきでしょうか。 Sometimes, perhaps. たまに、そうでしょう。 But there is something greater to fear. しかし、それより恐ろしいものがあります。 We should fear hell, we should fear death, we should fear God. 即ち、恐れるべきものとは、地獄です、死です、神様です。 We should fear God because he is the Judge. 神様を恐れるべきであるのは、神様は裁き主であるからです。
But on the evening of the Resurrection, Jesus gave something that took away that fear and gave them supreme relief and comfort and peace. 復活された夜、イエス様は弟子達に、その恐れを取り除いて、最高の慰めと安心と平和を与えるものを下さいました。 He gave them forgiveness. 赦しを与えました。
Jesus gave the disciples the work of giving this forgiveness-peace to people. 人々にその赦し･平和を与える仕事を弟子達に与えました。 The Holy Spirit works in the church today to give this peace. 今日も、教会の中で、聖霊はその平和を与えます。 It is given in the words of Absolution. 罪の赦しの宣言の中にあります。 It is given in the Holy Communion. 聖餐式によって与えられています。 It is why we love the words of the Benediction at the end of the service which give peace in our hearts and minds. ですから、礼拝の最後の祝福の言葉が大好きです:私達の心と思いに平和を与えるからです。
Non-Christians do not understand this. キリスト信者ではない人はこれを理解する事が出来ません。 They are satisfied or comforted temporarily with a hug, a bank account, nice weather, or a cold beer. ただ抱く事、銀行の貯金、良い天気、冷たいビールの一杯などで一時的に慰められています。 And so Jesus sent the Disciples and us to proclaim the Gospel of eternal joy and comfort. それで、イエス様は弟子達と私達を遣わせます：福音の永遠の喜びと慰めを述べ伝える為です。
4. Confession. 信仰告白。
The confession of Thomas is our confession, “My Lord and my God.” トマスの信仰告白は私達の信仰告白でもあります、「私の主、私の神よ」。 We have not seen Jesus but Jesus tells us that we have been blessed in a special way. 私達はイエス様を見た事がありませんが、私達が特別の方法で祝福されているとイエス様は教えました。 It is special because faith is the work of the Holy Spirit. 特別であるのは、信仰は聖霊の働きであるからです。 That is better, it is more blessed than seeing with our eyes. そのほうが良いです、自分の目で見るより幸いです。 It is more sure. もっと確信できます。 That is because our faith is not based on our experience or feelings! 何故ならば、私達の信仰は、自分の経験や自分の感情に基づいていないからです。 Our feelings change, but the Word of God never does. 私達の感情は変わりますが、神様の御言葉は変わりません。 The work of God the Holy Spirit is a sure thing! 神である聖霊の働きは確信出来るものです！
My original outline for today’s sermon was “Joy, Comfort, and Pride.” 今日の説教の最初のアウトラインは、「喜び、慰め、とプライド」でした。 But “pride” can be a sin if we are not careful. しかし、気をつけないと、プライドは罪になります。 And yet, we feel blessed, we feel special, and this is part of our confession. しかし、私達が祝福されていると感じます、特別に大事にされたと感じます、そして、これは私達の信仰告白の一部です。 It gives us courage to live our confession, to live as a Christian full of Easter-Resurrection joy and comfort. 私達の信仰告白を活かす勇気を与えます、即ち、イースターの復活の喜びと慰めによって、完全にクリスチャンとして活きる勇気を与えます。
And so we proudly confess our faith along with Thomas. “My Lord and my God.” それで、私達はトマスと共に信仰を告白します、「私の主、私の神よ」。
