Genesis Chapter One
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning?the first day.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning?the sixth day.
John Chapter One
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

創世記

1:1 初めに、神は天地を創造された。1:2 地は混沌であって、闇が深淵の面にあり、神の霊が水の面を動いていた。
1:3 神は言われた。「光あれ。」こうして、光があった。1:4 神は光を見て、良しとされた。神は光と闇を分け、1:5 光を昼と呼び、闇を夜と呼ばれた。夕べがあり、朝があった。第一の日である。
1:31 神はお造りになったすべてのものを御覧になった。見よ、それは極めて良かった。夕べがあり、朝があった。第六の日である。

1:1 初めに言があった。言は神と共にあった。言は神であった。1:2 この言は、初めに神と共にあった。1:3 万物は言によって成った。成ったもので、言によらずに成ったものは何一つなかった。1:4 言の内に命があった。命は人間を照らす光であった。1:5 光は暗闇の中で輝いている。暗闇は光を理解しなかった。
1:14 言は肉となって、わたしたちの間に宿られた。わたしたちはその栄光を見た。それは父の独り子としての栄光であって、恵みと真理とに満ちていた。

Happy New Year! あけましておめでとうございます！　 As the new year begins, let’s think about the topic of "beginning" today. この新しい年の初めに、「初め」と言うテーマで話しましょう。As the new year starts, we feel that we have a chance to have a new beginning in our lives. 新しい年が始まりますと、人生の新しいスタートが出来ると思います。We forget the old. 古い事を忘れます。We forgive the old. 古い事を赦します。We start fresh and clean. 新鮮(しんせん)できれいに初めます。The Bible word for this is repentance. それを表す聖書の言葉は悔い改めです。We feel sorry for the mistakes and sins that we committed, we want to do better, we ask God for forgiveness and trusting that forgiveness, we pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to amend, to change our sinful lives. 私達が犯した誤(あやま)りと罪の為に悔(くや)しい、失敗したと思って、もっと良くなって欲しいと思って、神様の赦しをお願いして、神様の赦しを信頼して、聖霊の力によって自分の罪深い人生を変えるように祈ります。And with forgiveness, there is hope. 赦しがあるので希望があります。We hope that the new year will be better than last year. 去年(きょねん)よりも、今年(ことし)の方が良い年になるように望みます。We hope that we will be closer to God, and also closer to our family and friends. 又今年こそ、神様により近くなるように、また家族や友達ともより近くなるように祈ります。

When shall we start this new beginning? この新しい初めをいつ始めましょうか。January First seems like a good place. 元日がより良いでしょう。That is what our calendar says. 私達のカレンダーによりますとそうです。That is when we start, but in the Bible readings which we read, God had already started a long time ago. 私達はその時点から始めますが、今日の聖書の個所によりますと、神様はいにしえ[古]の昔から既に始められています。"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." 「初めに、神は天地を創造された。」"In the beginning was the Word." 「初めに言があった。」 That beginning was at the creation of the world, but even way before that, we are told that Jesus was already with God. これは天地創造の時の事ですが、そのずっと前にも、イエス様はもう既に神様と共にいましたと聖書に書かれています。 I think that this is important because it means that even at creation God was already working for our salvation. それが大切であることは、創造の時に神様は私達の救いの為に、もう既に働いておられた事です。 Creation and Salvation go hand-in-hand together. 創造と救いが手と手でつないでいます。The plan of creation included the plan of salvation. 創造の御計画の中には救いの御計画もありました。In the infinite knowledge of Omniscient God, God knew that people would fall into sin. 神様が全（すべて）を知る事の「全知」の神なので、人間が罪に陥ると御存じでした。Salvation was not an afterthought. 救いは後で考えられた思いではありません。Salvation was not an emergency fix when things went wrong. 物事が悪くなる時の緊急的な助けではありません。God did not create a defective world, but he did not create a machine that could make no mistakes. 神様は悪い世界を造りませんでしたが、同時に、間違いを犯さない機械を造りませんでした。He created people. 人間を造りました。He created people with soul, with feelings, capable of making decisions, and capable of love. 魂を持って、感情を持って、判断が出来、愛する事が出来る人間を造りました。Machines cannot love. 機会は愛する事が出来ません。Broken machines can be fixed with tools, but broken people can only be fixed with love. 壊(こわ)れた機械を道具(どうぐ)で直しますが、壊れた人間は愛でしか直しません。And so with the creation of people whom he loved, God already had the plan to send His beloved Son, Jesus Christ to show the world the love of God. ですから、愛する人間を創造した時、神様はもう既に御自分の愛する独り子イエス・キリストを送るように計画されました。それは、この世に神様の愛を表す為です。

You could say that the beginning of salvation was from eternity. 救いが永遠の時から始まったと言えるでしょう。You could say it started at the birth of Christ or at the death and resurrection of Christ. キリストの御生誕から、又キリストの死と復活から始まったとも言えるでしょう。 You could say that salvation will come at the end of the world. 世の終わりの時に救いが来るとも言えるでしょう。You could say that salvation begins when you believe that Jesus is your Lord and Savior, when you believe that he died and rose to forgive your sin. 又自分がイエス様を自分の主・自分の救い主であると信じる時、自分の罪を赦す為に、イエス様が死んで甦ったと信じる時に、救いが始まるとも言えるでしょう。

At the beginning of this new year, let us celebrate that Christ has already begun our salvation. 今年の初めに、キリストがもう既に私達の救いを始めた事をお祝いしましょう。It is a new creation. 新しい創造です。And so with repentance and trust and hope and love and peace and joy, we start this new year which we number, "A.D. The Year of Our Lord 2011." それで、悔い改めと信頼と希望と愛と平和と喜びを持って、A.D.主の年２０１１年と数える、新しい年を始めましょう。
