I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.

わたしは、この都の中には聖所を見なかった。全能者にして主なる神と小羊とが、その聖所なのである。都は、日や月がそれを照す必要がない。神の栄光が都を明るくし、小羊が都のあかりだからである。諸国民は都の光の中を歩き、地の王たちは、自分たちの光栄をそこに携えて来る。都の門は、終日、閉ざされることはない。そこには夜がないからである。人々は、諸国民の光栄とほまれとをそこに携えて来る。しかし、汚れた者や、忌むべきこと及び偽りを行う者は、その中に決してはいれない。はいれる者は、小羊のいのちの書に名をしるされている者だけである。
Today we celebrate All Saints' Sunday. 今日、全聖徒主日をお祝いします。 We remember those who have died believing in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. イエス様を救い主として信じて死んだ人々を記念します。We celebrate that they are with God in Heaven. 彼らが天国の神様と共にいるのでお祝いします。And we rejoice today because we also believe in Jesus as our Savior, we too shall live with them eternally in Heaven. 又、私達もイエス様を救い主として信じて、私達も永遠に天国で生きるので喜びます。So today is a day of remembering the past and looking forward to the future. ですから今日は、過去を覚えながら未来を待ち望みます。We remember Christians that have been called to heaven. 天に召されたキリスト信者を覚えます。We remember them and try to imitate their faith and trust in God. 彼らの信仰と神様を信頼した事を思い出して、同じように生きるようにします。
These Christians did have their faults. これらのキリスト信者達は完全な者ではなく、彼らにも欠点がありました。They did sin. 罪を犯しました。 But they are called "holy" "saints" because their sins were forgiven and they were cleansed by the blood of Christ that was shed on the cross. でも「聖徒」と呼ばれるのは、彼らの罪が赦され、十字架上で流されたキリストの血によって、清められたからです。I remember my parents and grandparents. 私は自分の両親やお祖父さんたちを覚えています。I know what some of their faults were, but I know their good points too. 彼らの欠点が分かりますが、彼らの良い点も分かります。I know their struggles in life. 私は彼らの人生の悩みを知っています。I remember their faith and I remember how they prayed. 彼らが信仰によって、どのように祈ったかを覚えます。This gives me strength and courage to live my own life as a believer in Christ. これは自分がキリスト信者として人生を送る為の力と勇気を与えてくれます。It gives me a model; it gives me a hero of the faith. 彼等は私のための模範、私の為のヒーローになります。
Today we rejoice that the names of all who believe in Christ are written in the Book of Life in heaven. キリストを信じるすべての人々の名前が天国の「命の書」に書かれていますので、喜びます。Those who have died in the faith have their names recorded there. 信仰を持って死ぬ人々の名前がそこに記録されています。We who are still alive but who believe in Jesus have our names written in the Book of Life, too. 私達はまだ生きていますが、イエス様を信じていますので、私達の名前も命の書に書かれています。We are registered as "saints," we are registered as "citizens of the Kingdom of God." 私達は「聖徒」として登録されています。「神の国の国民」として登録されています。 In the Christmas Story, Jesus was born in Bethlehem because that is where the ancestors of Mary's husband Joseph had lived, and they went there to register for the census. クリスマスの物語には、イエス様がベツレヘムでお生まれになったのは、マリアの主人ヨセフの祖先がそこに住んでいたので、住民登録の為に、彼らはベツレヘムに行きました。 At that time, Jesus was registered as a member of this world. その時、イエス様はこの世界の者として登録されました。He lived, suffered, died and rose as a human. そして人間として、イエス様は生きて、苦しんで、死んで、甦りました。In this way God showed his great love for us. このようにして、神様はご自分の素晴らしい愛を私達に見せて下さいました。 He became one of us in order to save us from this world of sin and to bring us into the Kingdom of God. イエス様が私達の世界の一人に成ったのは、この罪の世から私達を救い出して、神の国に連れて行く為でした。As citizens of Heaven, even though we are like travelers and aliens in a foreign country while living on this earth, we have the promise of Eternal Life. 天国の国民として、この地上で外国人や旅人のように生きていても、永遠の命の約束があります。 Our names are written in the Book of Life, and that is why we can rejoice today. 私達の名前が「命の書」に書かれていますので、今日、それをお祝いします。
Have you ever been asked, "If you were to die tonight, would you go to heaven?" この有名な質問を聞いた事がありますか。「もし今晩あなたが死んだなら、あなたは天国に行きますか？」We can be sure of our salvation. 私たちは自分の救いに確信を持つ事が出来ます。 We can be sure if (because!) we believe in Jesus as our Savior, confess our sins before God, and receive the forgiveness of God. 私たちがイエス・キリストを私たちの救い主であると信じ、自分の罪を神様の前に告白し、神様の赦しを受け入れるのなら、救いの確信を持てます。 And we can be surer because of the sacraments, Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. もっと確信させるのは、聖礼典です。洗礼と聖さん式です。 In the Lord’s Supper, we confess our sin, we acknowledge our need for Christ, and in his precious Body and Blood we receive the forgiveness of sins and the seal, the promise, the sign of eternal salvation. 聖餐式の時、私たちは罪を告白し、キリストが必要であると認め、イエス様の尊い血と肉を頂くことにより、罪の赦しを受け、救いの確証、約束、永遠の命への印を頂きます。
When we accept Jesus as our Savior, our names are written in the Book of Eternal Life. 私たちがイエス様を救い主として受け入れるとき、私たちの名前は命の書に書かれます。There is a ceremony to officially celebrate that wonderful Salvation.正式なすばらしい救いをお祝いする儀式があります。It is called "Baptism." 洗礼式と呼ばれています。In baptism, first our name is spoken, and then God's name is spoken, "In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen." 洗礼によって、まず私たちの名前が呼ばれ、次に神様の名前が呼ばれ、「父と子と聖霊の名において、アーメン」と言います。Our name is registered with the Name of God. 私たちの名前は神様の名前と共に記録されています。That is why baptism is so important, so precious. ですから洗礼はとても大事で大切です。It is like God's signature that we are saved. 神様のサインで私たちは救われています。 In the water of baptism, our sin is washed away. 洗礼の水によって私たちの罪は洗い流されました。That is why we encourage everyone to be baptized, to baptize their family, and to remember their baptisms daily in the ordinary things of life: like washing your hands, like feeling sorry for your sins, like feeling assured of your salvation. ですから全ての人が洗礼を受けるように、彼らの家族を洗礼し、その洗礼を日々覚えるように；たとえば非常に日常的な手を洗うように、あなたの罪を悔い改め、あなたの救いを確信するようにと勧めます。
